2013 Open Day

On 21st April Twemlows Stud Farm and Stallion AI Services held their annual Open Day. With people arriving before 11am and the car parks becoming full by midday the overall feel was the day was a complete success. Demonstrations by Tullis Matson and Monica Morganti MRCVS on semen collection and scanning the mare were well received with both leaving no standing room available. Monica’s talk on embryo transfer was enjoyed by many and received plenty of attention by those planning to use ET themselves this year.  As always James Crawford from Elite Stallions wowed the crowds with his knowledge of Artificial Insemination and how you and your mare can benefit from it.

With over 400 people attending the Open Day, the companies with trade stands had plenty of people to keep them occupied all day.  We had many enquires about our services and training courses and our Silent Auction was a big hit too. From announcing the winners of the Auction Twemlows has had several calls and emails from very happy people, telling us what a wonderful day it was and that winning had made the day even better.

The main event of the day was the Stallion Parade which had everyone watching at one point or another. This year we had 22 stallions taking part in the parade, and an appearance from Woodlander Farouche’s embryo transfer filly, Woodlander Wild Child, and Twemlows’ own Suffolk, Samford Amethyst and her yearling filly, Twemlows Diamond.  Each horse was shown at their best either ridden or in hand and obtained high praise from the willing crowd.  Once again the British Equestrian Federation put on a display of ‘How to prepare your yearling and three year old for futurity’. Both young horses showed off their skills and strutted their stuff in the arena to a very interested crowd.

By the end of the day the Hog Roast had been consumed, the biscuits had vanished and all the free leaflets and magazines from Horse and Hound, had been taken.  We also had a new addition this year, a bar, which was most popular. High praise was given by all as they were leaving and hope for next year’s event was high. The Rare Breeds Survival Trust, the Open Day’s sponsored charity, declared they had had an amazing day and are delighted at how generous people had been in giving to their charity. The Silent Auction itself has raised nearly £1800 and has exceeded everyone’s expectations.

The following are just a few of the comments made about the Open Day:

“Thank you to all at Twemlows Stud for a thoroughly well organised and pleasurable day yesterday at your Open Day and Stallion Parade. I think it’s the nicest stallion parade I’ve ever presented my stallion at for many reasons. There were some great talks and demonstrations as well as a huge selection of stallions for breeders to see. The atmosphere was calm, friendly and there was a large turnout which meant we were busy chatting to current and future clients all day. So once again, thank you very much, you all deserve a huge pat on the back!”

“A fantastic day out which was brilliantly organised”

“Thank you both very much indeed for a very interesting and informative Open Day. Your staff were so helpful and everything was beautifully presented. The mares, stallions and young stock all looked very well and happy in such a friendly and relaxed environment. We really enjoyed ourselves and here is a link to my blog article. http://www.thehorseexchange.co.uk/news-desk/?p=0001431
